Nick Rosenthal and Judith Townsley are both highly experienced translators from German to English. They have worked together for over 25 years, initially both as in-house translators at Salford Translations Ld. They have continued working closely together since Judith left the company to go freelance in 1990.

As with most translators, we are both used to working on a variety of jobs with relatively short deadlines. So when the opportunity to translate a 430-page book presented itself, we knew it would involve different timeframes, different approaches and different challenges.  We just didn’t know how different! This presentation will take a (wry, sometimes humorous) look at our experience of a project that took longer than we expected, and which presented more challenges than we expected. The book in question was written by a group of academics at a leading Swiss business school, and it covers a wide range of topics around project management (everything from psychology to financial planning). It is aimed at postgraduate students of process  engineering.

At a time when many translators are looking for new ways to increase their workload, for new avenues to explore, this talk will show some of the opportunities, and also some of the things to watch out for along the way.
