In the natural world, an okapi is an animal looking like a cross between a zebra and a giraffe. In the localisation world Okapi is a set of free, multiplatform tools with a somewhat intimidating interface (like a cross between… hmm).
However, if your work requires more than just translation of Word and Excel files or you routinely work with more than just one CAT tool, it’s definitely worth spending some time taming Okapi, since its abilities can often become invaluable.
During the presentation I will briefly describe multiple features of the suite, which include encoding conversion, ability to convert multiple file formats (including bilingual files) into XLIFF and back, translation memory conversion and cleanup, terminology extraction, alignment, analysis, pre-translation, machine translation, translation packages handling, QA, batch search and replace, batch Trados 2007 files handling and processing and many more.
I will present some scenarios in which Okapi tools can be employed both by freelance translators and LSPs and I will give some tips on efficient usage of Okapi Framework.
This presentation is aimed at industry professionals with at least a basic understanding of the more technical aspects of translation workflows.
