Catriona Howard is a part-time Lecturer in Interpreting at the University of Manchester as well as a practising conference interpreter.

She qualified as an interpreter in 2005 with an MA in Interpreting & Translation Studies (distinction) from the University of Leeds and passed the EU test for freelance conference interpreters in January 2009.

Before moving to her current role, Catriona taught conference interpreting and translation at the University of Leeds and was programme manager for the MA Conference Interpreting and Translation Studies between 2010 and 2012. While at Leeds, Catriona was also a Subject Matter Expert for the National Network for Interpreting (NNI), designing and delivering events for young people as well as providing content for the NNI website.  She performed a similar role on the EU-funded ORCIT (Online Resources for Conference Interpreter Training) project from 2010 to 2012.

Catriona also has a keen interest in public service interpreting and worked as a public service interpreter from 2005-2012. She also has experience of teaching English enhancement courses for practising interpreters, mainly from the European Parliament.

Before training as an interpreter, Catriona worked for Aimhigher, creating and running innovative events aimed at promoting language study at GCSE and A-level. In 2007 she received the IoL’s David Crystal Award for “fostering the study of languages” in the UK.
