Cate Avery

Cate Avery FITI knew that she wanted to be a translator from the age of 16. After studying languages at Oxford and then at Dalhousie (Nova Scotia), she worked variously as a staff translator in industry and subsequently for a major translation company in the UK, then ran a niche translation company specialising in patents and other intellectual property. With Lanna Castellano, she developed and ran the Professional Support Group, ITI’s groundbreaking online course in business skills for freelance translators.

Since 2000 she has combined working as a freelance translator with project management for translator teams on large-scale projects.
