Meet the delegates - Paul Clarke & Charlotte Couchman (Harrogate - UK)

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAWe are a married translator couple trading as Lodestar Translations and specialising in patents and other scientific and technical translation and teaching on Leeds University’s MA in Translation and formerly also in Durham. Between us we translate from French, German, Spanish and Italian into English.

Working together in the same office and picking one another’s brains means we don’t suffer from the isolation many translators experience, but we nonetheless value ITI Conferences as an opportunity to meet other members of the profession and put names to faces.

We have attended many an ITI Conference in our time, going way back to the very first one. We have found every one useful and enjoyable, but thought this year’s programme sounded particularly interesting. As coordinators of the ITI regional group Yorkshire Translators and Interpreters, we also wanted to encourage our members to attend, so it wouldn’t really have done not to book ourselves! After all, it is almost on our patch!

With having attended so many ITI Conferences in the past, we also look forward to them as a chance to catch up with friends we don’t see at other times. Some of the friends we have made over the years have become trusted colleagues with whom we have worked on translation projects.

Though we live in Harrogate, just down the railway line from Newcastle, the nearest Charlotte has got to visiting the city is a concert at the Sage, so we are looking forward to having a bit of a wander round too.

See you there!
