ITI is honoured to have the Hon James Ramsbotham DL, CEO of the North East Chamber of Commerce, to open its Conference in Newcastle upon Tyne in 2015.
The interpreting and translation professions are vital to the economy of the North East, as they are to the UK as a whole. Professional translators and interpreters facilitate communication between exporters and their customers, and help UK businesses work with partners around the world to develop and grow, supporting jobs and regeneration.
James Ramsbotham has been the Chief Executive of the North East Chamber of Commerce since 2006. NECC is the champion of business in the North East and is very successful at promoting the interests of businesses throughout the region. It has almost 4,000 members and delivers a range of business support services, especially training and international trade advice.
Previously he was Vice Chairman of the Esh Group – the award winning North East construction group. Prior to that he spent 14 years in Barclays Bank plc (throughout the UK) and, before that, he had 12 years soldiering in the Royal Green Jackets (throughout the world).
He is a Deputy Lieutenant for Co. Durham; Chairman of the Darlington Building Society and Honorary Colonel for The Rifles (T.A.) in County Durham. He also gives time to Durham Cathedral, Business Durham, The DLI Museum, The Foundation of Light and a number of other charitable organisations.
James and his wife have two adult children and live in the Durham Dales. He enjoys sailing, skiing and all outdoor country pursuits.
