Yoga is an ancient form of exercise that focuses on strength, flexibility and breathing to boost physical and mental wellbeing. The main components of yoga are postures (a series of movements designed to increase strength and flexibility) and breathing. The conference session, scheduled at 5.30 on Friday in Room 6, is designed to introduce yoga to people who have little or no experience of it – a high degree of strength or flexibility (or even any flexibility!) is therefore not a requirement. The class will concentrate on ways of relaxing and improving posture during or after work, with a focus on work that involves sitting at a desk for long periods of time.
The session’s teacher is from the local organisation Jambo Yoga, an ethical company that is interested in funking up Eastern traditions to complement our modern lifestyles. Master Yoga teacher Jambo Truong has trained with some of the world’s leading Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga teachers, but he has worked hard to ‘demystify’ the world of yoga so that we don’t have to! Jambo Yoga’s focus is on Forrest Yoga, an intelligent sequencing of yoga that preserves all of the ancient, time-tested benefits of traditional yoga, whilst updating it for the hectic Western lifestyles. The result is a style entirely suitable for counteracting the stressors of modern day Western minds and bodies.
You will not need to bring any special equipment for the session or wear any special clothing – we just request that anything you do wear be comfortable and not too tight or restrictive. The session is free of charge.
If you need to get changed and are not staying at the Hilton, there may be a possibility to use the hotel’s gym facilities. We will keep you posted.
