My name is Trinidad Clares Flores and I work as an interpreter and translator with English and Spanish (I’m from Spain). I specialise mainly in IT, telecommunications and law but also translate clinical trial protocols, and marketing texts.
Although I have translated a few million words in my 20 years of experience, my real love is interpreting and during this time I have interpreted in a wide variety of settings: from residents’ associations meetings in the Costa del Sol (where you also had to have a strong voice to keep attendees in order) to business meetings, from conferences to trials, suspects interviews and speeches during receptions.
For the last 5 years, I have also been teaching translation in the new MA and BA programmes in Cardiff University on a part-time basis. And, together with my colleague and friend Elvana Moore, I set up ITI Cymru Wales, as a way of meeting colleagues (I’m most definitely not your typical introvert translator), organising professional events and giving something back to the newer generations.
I have attended a few ITI conferences already but I always look forward to them because it’s a great chance to see friends who live far and make new ones. This year, there are very interesting sessions dedicated to interpreting dealing with technology (another one of my interests) so you’ll definitely find me there. Also, the fringe events organised will allow me to enjoy my newly-acquired passion for running so I look forward to that as well!
All that remains to be said is I’m based in Cardiff where I live with my (Welsh) husband and 4 year-old son.
