Hi there! My name’s Laura Colagrossi. I was born in the picturesque Italian town of Como, right by the lake, and arrived in the UK almost 4 years ago. After getting my Master’s degree in Translation at Salford University in 2011, I’ve been working for an online marketing company based just outside Manchester.
I recently realised that supervising a Sales department was fun but not really my thing – this is when I thought “Why not go back to my lifetime love of languages?” and here I am! I moved to a part-time role in marketing and created my own brand, iThinkThereforeTranslate, where I translate from English and Spanish into Italian.
I am thrilled about my choice and am learning something new every day – with the ITI Bulletin and its social networks playing a major role in this. However, there is still so much I want to know about the profession and, as a newcomer, the ITI Conference will be a great opportunity to meet other translators and get to know the industry. I’m particularly looking forward to the talks about work/life balance and co-working. I’m still in search of my niche in the market and who knows, I could have my flash of inspiration in Newcastle!
This is going to be a very exciting year for me, starting with the ITI Conference in April and then moving to London over the summer, where my very lucky baby (my partner’s Spanish so it’s a trilingual to be!) will be born. If you want to say hi, you can find me on Twitter at @iTTTranslate.
PS. I heard about the “Singing Translators” event, can’t wait for this! I love singing, though whether I’m any good at it…
