We, Tony Parr (left) and Marcel Lemmens (right) have been regular attendees (now there’s an odd word…) at ITI conferences for longer than we care to remember, the photograph being a memento of pre-dinner drinks on the House of Commons terrace during an ITI conference back in 2007.
We both have extensive experience as translators (freelance and in-house) and as teachers of translation, principally at the National College of Translation and Interpreting in Maastricht. We are the authors of Handboek voor de Vertaler Nederlands-Engels. Operating under the name of Teamwork, we have been organising short courses, workshops and conferences for professional translators and language editors since 1993. We reckon that the annual ITI conference has got to be one of the leading industry gatherings, combining informative presentations and debates with a pleasant and convivial atmosphere. As a platform for debate among professional translators, it is surely second only to the biennial Nationaal Vertaalcongres in the Netherlands, the first edition of which took place in 1999.
Marcel is an English-Dutch translator and editor of English textbooks for one of the leading Dutch publishers of teaching methods for secondary schools, while Tony is a Dutch-English translator and English language editor.
