My name is Jessica and I was born and raised in Switzerland. I lived in the UK for over three years but I am currently based in Bogota, Colombia. I’m an English and Spanish to German translator and a copywriter for German.
I trade under the name of Double Dot Translations and specialise in advertising, marketing and website translations. The creative side of the translation spectrum is where I thrive. I like getting my teeth into tricky translation issues and resolving knotty language matters.
I’ve always wanted to live abroad. That’s why I took the chance to move to the UK after completing my BA in Translation at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences in Switzerland. I already knew London from my many travels abroad so the choice wasn’t hard.
While living there I took an MA in Bilingual Translation at the University of Westminster and in my free time took advantage of East London’s grand offer of culture and arts. In fact, I enjoyed my time in the Old Smoke so much that I decided to stay on and establish my freelance translation business there.
Early last year I had to opportunity to move to Colombia and I decided to go for another adventure. I’ve been here for a little over a year now and it’s a great place to be. The people here are extremely kind and the rich Colombian culture, arts and landscapes are a truly great inspiration. I try to make the most of every free minute and travel through this stunning country as much as possible.
The only downside of living in Latin America is that home and the UK have never felt so far away. Attending the ITI conference is more than just an excuse to come back to Europe, I’m very much looking forward to the highly promising talks and especially to meeting both known and new colleagues from the UK.
