My name is Silvia Ferrero and I am originally from the beautiful city of Zaragoza, in Spain, although I have been living in Manchester for the last few years. I specialise in games and software localisation, websites, IT, tourism, business, marketing and advertising. I enjoy the creative aspect of translation, so I also love working on copywriting/transcreation projects. In fact, a few years ago, I decided to set up MediaLoc in order to provide localisation services to the gaming, digital, media and creative sectors in a wide range of languages, which I combine with my freelance work.
In addition, I am the Chair of the North-West Translators’ Network and I give lectures and talks at several universities across the UK. I am also quite active in several networking groups in my local area, so all this certainly keeps me busy!
I was pleased to hear that the next ITI Conference will be held in Newcastle, as I had been meaning to visit for a long time and never got round to it. I am tempted to stay the rest of the weekend so I can have a bit more time to enjoy the sights.
I am very much looking forward to the Conference. The programme looks fantastic and as always it will be a great opportunity to learn about industry developments, catch up with colleagues and make new contacts. It’s going to be hard to choose between all the presentations though!
Wanting to improve further my technical skills, I have signed up for the Align This masterclass with Marek Pawelec and the XML – Yes we can! masterclass with Stefan Gentz, both of whom I had the pleasure of meeting recently in Manchester at the NWTN’s Boost Day.
I am also looking forward to some socialising at the Conference Dinner doing one of the things Spaniards enjoy the most: eating! And last but not least, the TweetUp will be a fantastic evening and a great opportunity to meet in person some of the people I have been following on social media. Which reminds me, my Twitter handle is @silviaferrerotr, feel free to add me.
See you all in Newcastle!
