Meet the delegates - Jason Willis-Lee (Madrid, Spain)

Jason WL

Hello.

My name is Jason Willis-Lee. I am 39 years old and I have worked as a translator for 14 years, the last 10 as a full time self-employed professional. Being a former medic and clinical research associate, you will not be surprised to read that I specialise in the MedPharm sector. I translate from French and Spanish into English. I also provide a specialised English author’s editing and writing support service for Spanish author-clients who wish to publish their research articles in academic journals.

I am based in Madrid, Spain, where I will have lived 15 years this January and I still very much enjoy the Mediterranean diet, climate and lifestyle. My Spanish wife of nearly 10 years is an interior designer and we have two daughters aged 7 and 5 who we raise bilingually.

Outside my day job as a busy med-pharm translator, my other passion is music. In my spare (and sometimes not so spare) time I collaborate with various professional chamber music ensembles as an adhoc lyrical baritone. I have worked as both a chorister and soloist. My contact with choral societies affords me the privilege of meeting people from all walks of life and helps to allay the lack of human contact one can sometimes feel as a freelance translator.

The ITI2015 conference will be my first foray into ITI events since I was admitted to the Institute in 2013. My primary purpose in attending is the opportunity to network with peers working in the same field as myself; I am especially looking forward to devirtualising some of my ITIMedNet colleagues and attending sessions on business negotiation and customer relationships.

See you in Newcastle!
