Lanna Castellano Irish by birth, educated in England and Italian by marriage, Lanna studied in Paris, working there as a translator with NATO and then in Naples. She has worked in London for many years as a freelance legal translator, but with a ten-year break as a staff translator in Brussels. As a founder and Council member of ITI, her interests were setting up its system of language and subject networks, promoting good relations with translation companies and organising mutual support within the profession, especially for newcomers, including a 'guardian angel' scheme. About seven years ago, Cate Avery and Lanna launched the Peer (now Professional) Support Group. Last autumn they also ran the first online 'Orientation Course' for new graduates and people entering translation from other careers. Lanna is a Fellow of ITI and of the Chartered Institute of Linguists, in which she is also active.
