Dr. Barry TurnerDr Barry Turner is the Discipline Head Translating and Interpreting at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT University). He is a former State Manager of the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI) and has managed the Australian Immigration Department’s Telephone Interpreter Service and Translation Service. His academic career has included appointments as Lecturer in Translating and Interpreting at Deakin University and Head of the Indonesian Department at the Australian Defence Force School of Languages. He has served as Chair of the NAATI Indonesian / Malay Examiner Panel and as a member of the NAATI English Panel. He was a co-developer of the current NAATI Examiners’ Manual and has worked extensively as a free-lance translator and interpreter. He is a member of the Australian Institute of Interpreters and Translators (AUSIT) and is accredited by NAATI at the Professional level as an Interpreter (Indonesian – English) and Translator (English into Indonesian, Indonesian into English, Malay into English).
