Fiona HarrisFiona Harris is a staff translator with the Directorate-General for Translation (DGT) - the translation service of the European Commission. She is currently on secondment to the DGT Field Office in London. She is involved in a range of initiatives to promote language learning in the UK and responsible for raising awareness of opportunities for linguists within the European institutions. Fiona has a BA (Hons) in Dutch and Scandinavian Studies from UCL (1987)and a Masters in Translation from the University of Surrey. Following her postgraduate studies, Fiona worked as an associate lecturer in translation at the University of Surrey. She went on to work in marketing and business development in the pharmaceutical industry for five years before setting up her own UK-based business specialising in medical and pharmaceutical translation (2000). She joined the translation service in Luxembourg in January 2005. Her languages are Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, Dutch, Afrikaans and French. She is a long-standing member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists and the Institute of Translation and Interpreting.
