Meet the delegates - Oliver Lawrence (Italy)

When deciding which conference presentations to go to, what counts isn’t the title but the presenter. The who, not the what. So says my cousin Mark, at any rate, a seasoned academic and conference-goer. And there’s plenty of quality who at the ITI conference, that’s for sure.

This will be my first one. I’ve been translating since 2008 (IT>EN, doing as much tourism, marketing and transcreation work as I can get my paws on, around giving the odd webinar and course for the good folks at eCPD) and am now a Chartered Linguist, MITI and MCIL, based in a little place called Norma, just south of Rome. That means I’m officially ‘Normal’…

I have been to ProZ and IAPTI conferences before, but this will be my first conference as a ‘civilian’ (not a speaker), so that should give it a different and perhaps more relaxed flavour.

I’m looking forward to meeting lots of new people, top people, interesting people, tweeps or otherwise, to learning some new things to enhance my skills, supercharge my business and keep up to date with developments, and to seeing a bit of Newcastle. I’ve only ever passed through it once, twenty years ago, so it’s time to put that right.

I regard ITIconf as one of the best in the industry. I hope to see you there.
